Enfield 4 v 0 Chelmsford City

Three Half's of 30 minutes

City played their first pre season friendly having made the journey to tough Combination side Enfield. City started strong in the heat and dominated the first quarter. But Enfield capitalised with a long range effort that found its way into the back of the net. New signing Kim Jeffery made an immediate impact on the game and constantly terrorise the Enfield defence linking up well with Stubbings, and Wheeler, she was unlucky not to equalise with a her first shot blocked and her second a follow up going out for a corner.

Enfield counter attacked and City's Strong was and blocked denying the home side resulting in a corner which was headered away by a Strong Stubbings. City's other new signing Lindsey Bowman also made an immediate impact linking up well with Jeffery who's shot was just blocked. Strong, Wheeler and Jeffery linked up well and Jeffery who was through was just off.

The second half see both teams come out strong and a City corner was almost converted but Wheelers shot was blocked by the hard working home defence. Enfield attacked and City's Binks  with a clumsy tackle ensured an Enfield penalty which was lofted over the bar to spare City's blushes. Both team's worked extremely hard in the heat but it started to take its toll and City backed off slightly and Enfield extended their lead 2-0. City's Bowman came close again with a fierce shot that was just over the bar, Bowman again came close moments later with the keeper who just caught. City's McLaughlin who was through on goal was tackled from behind with a two footed challenge but stayed on her feet… no Penalty given and her shot was just blocked, Ridings who followed up see her effort go over. City's defence of Vernon, Binks, Strong and Stubbings were strong in their defending and Stubbings and Strong worked hard to block the Enfield attackers efforts. City came close again with Vernon's effort which was just caught. City's Wheeler and Jeffery come close but both their efforts were just wide. Bowman also come close but her shot was just over. She was also involved on the next attack providing Ridings who’s effort was over. Enfield scored to more and the result was 4-0.

Today we had a few players missing and we had some Players filling in at Defence and in the Midfield areas which to their credit they did very well and worked hard in the heat. We had good debuts and we welcome Kimberly (Kizza), Kim (Gonner), and Lindsey to our team all three worked hard and showed commitment. As a team I think we played extremely well considering the heat and the level that Enfield play at. We earnt praise form their Manager and based on how we played today it looks to be an exciting season ahead for us. We matched  Enfield and at times played some lovely one touch football. Thank you to Enfield who also worked hard today and we wish them luck this season
