Pre-Season Friendly
Sunday 24th July 2005
Godmanchester Rovers 1 – 2 Chelmsford City
This pre-season win over opposition from the western division of the Eastern Region League was followed by news that Chelmsford City Ladies & Girls Football Club have been awarded the FA Charter Standard
This is great news for the well established club and is a reward for the hard working committee and especially the people involved in gaining this prestigious award.
Against Rovers, Chelmsford were dealt a blow with in just 10 minutes of kick-off, as their young goalkeeper, Jade Parker, fell awkwardly on her knee and was forced to make way for Amy Vernon between the sticks.
City took the lead, with Sarah Jolly converting Emma riding’s cross.
In wet conditions, both teams found it difficult to play fluent passing football, and on 30 minutes, Godmanchester took advantage of confusion in the City defence to fire in the equaliser.
The score remained at 1 – 1 until midway through the second half, when Angelina Hadley’s corner was volleyed in by Laura Brown to see City regain the lead.
Superb goalkeeping from the stand in Amy Vernon, combined with ruthless defending from the City players, saw The Clarets come away with their second win in as many weeks.
This Sunday Chelmsford make the short trip to Sawbridgeworth Town, to play their counterparts who are also from the western division of the Eastern Region League, and hopefully they can continue their impressive pre-season form with another victory.
