King’s Lynn 3 – 3 Chelmsford City
After a classy first-half display of football, capped by two superb goals from Sharon Brownlie, City threw away their two-goal lead and only just snatched a point from this fixture after a scrappy second-half
Right from the kick-off Chelmsford took control with some outstanding one-touch football and, 15 minutes in, they were rewarded as Brownlie latched onto a pass from Elizabeth Marshall to net her first goal of the season.
On 30 minutes Brownlie Struck again. This time she fired the ball over the King’s Lynn defence and past the reach of the goalkeeper, before it rattled in off the crossbar.
The first 15 minutes of the second half saw a lapse in concentration from the visitors, allowing King’s Lynn to score two goals to be back on level terms.
An altogether scrappier second-half saw touch challenges at both ends, with a fierce tackle on City’s Laura Brown earning the home forward a booking.
City were dealt a blow in the last 10 minutes as King’s Lynn broke through the defence and their striker calmly slotted the ball past Carly Waters in goal.
But in true City spirit, the Clarets never gave up and were duly rewarded with a few minutes to go, as Brown’s stunning effort secured City a point.
Chelmsford were disappointed to make the long journey home from Norfolk with only one point to show for their efforts, but they hope to build on their first-half display going into Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Newport Pagnell Town.
