Chelmsford City 3 – 3 Haringey Borough
A SUPERB second-half comeback from a spirited City side earned them a respectable draw against higher opposition, Haringey Borough, on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon at Barnston AFC.
City put on a disappointing first half display, with Borough deservedly ending the half three goals ahead.
However, City were boosted by the half time team talk and went into the second half firing on all cylinders.
A fine cross from Ashleigh Harding was met with precision by Kerri Binks, who headed the ball past the goalkeeper to begin City’s comeback.
The Clarets continued to plug away despite trailing 3 – 1 with no substitutes, and their determined character shone through as, with ten minutes to go, Emma Ridings kept her composure in front of goal and slotted the ball to reduce the deficit to one goal.
With time running out, Binks found a way through the Haringey defence and shrugged off her marker before firing in the equaliser.
City’s defenders were equal to the task put up by a strong Haringey attack in the final minutes of the game, and the home team held on for a well-earned draw after a typically gritty display.
