 Chelmsford City 1 – 0 Mulbarton Belles

CHELMSFORD City made the perfect start to their campaign with a 1 – 0 win over Mulbarton Belles on the opening day of the season.

City started brightly with some fine passing moves culminating in a number of chances on goal for the strikers.

Ten minutes into the game, Zoe Taylor chased down a long through ball from Jemma Bell before slotting it over the goalkeeper to claim her first goal for the club.

The game continued in much the same way throughout the opening half, with City playing a superb passing game and completely dictating the play against an established Mulbarton team.

But despite their dominance, the home team could not increase their lead before half time.

After the break however, it was a different story, with the game becoming scrappier as the Belles fought to level the score.

On several occasions the visitors came close to grabbing an equaliser, but some brave challenges from City’s defenders, together with some fine saves from Carly Waters in goal, meant that Mulbarton went away empty-handed as The Clarets took all three points from a closely contested match.

After this outstanding team performance City will be full of confidence as they go into this Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Abbey Rangers, 2pm kick off at Barnston AFC.
