League Cup

Second Round

 Sunday 11th December 2005

 Chelmsford City 3 – 1 Arlesey Town

CHELMSFORD City progressed through to round three of the League Cup on Sunday, after making hard work of a relatively straightforward tie against opposition from Division One West, Arlesey Town.

City were off the mark after just 10 minutes, as a wonderful ball from Emma Ridings was met with precision by the speedy Catherine Hyland, who set off on a superb run before firing in the opening goal.

But after their impressive start, City lost their focus and the visitors were rewarded on 30 minutes as a striker broke through the Chelmsford defence and shot straight at keeper Carly Waters, before hitting in the rebound to level the score before the break.

The game became scrappier as the second half wore on, but with just 10 minutes to go it was City who took control, shrugging off two defenders and hitting the ball into the hop left-hand corner of the goal, beyond the reach of the keeper, But still Arlesey continued to pressure, with the reorganised Chelmsford defence being stretched on a number of occasions.

With the visitors focused on grabbing the equaliser, City took advantage and upped the pressure at the other end with a determined Ashleigh Harding netting a wonderful goal to secure victory and send Chelmsford through.
