ESSEX COUNTY WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP

SEMI-FINAL

 Sunday 22nd February 2004

 Barking 6 – 1 Chelmsford City

The task of visiting the current cup holders and a team playing five Divisions higher in the pyramid is bad enough, but having to do it without a few regular players, made it a daunting prospect for the City girls.

City never got started except for a ten minute spell just before the break.  By this time they were 3-0 down but pulled a goal back in the 44th minute.

Jan Mooney played a ball forward and Emma Ridings squeezed between two defenders before slipping the ball into the net.

Lucy Garrett saw a well struck free kick go inches wide of the upright and Shirley Cole skewed a shot wide after a neat overhead kick into the box by Sharon Brownlie caught the home side out.

After the break, City continued to work hard but three further goals consigned them to defeat.

Chelmsford City: Waters, Thompson, Bell, Mooney, Wells (Smith), Brownlie (Rabbitts), Cole, Binks, Ridings and Garrett.
