ESSEX COUNTY WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE
DIVISION ONE
Sunday 9th November 2003
Chelmsford City 2 – 2 Billericay Town
CITY had to battle hard to gain a point at Barnston on Sunday. City had the first chance after 10 minutes when Sharon Brownlie saw her 25 yard strike rattle the underside of the crossbar before being cleared.
Billericay took the lead following a long punt into the crowded penalty area where the ball rebounded off City goalkeeper, Smith, and a forward before being bundled into the net.
The second half saw City draw level after a mix-up between two Town defenders.
Paula Drane was quickly onto the loose ball and following a free run on goal, coolly tucked the ball home.
City pressurised the Town goal and after a defender handled the ball in her own area, Drane stepped up to convert the penalty.
The lead was held until 15 mintues from time when a quickly taken throw in and a long ball over the top caught City out leaving a forward to lob the ball over Smith to level the scores.
The Town goalkeeper closed Emma Ridings down well to block a close range shot before City besieged the Town goal during time added on for stoppages with a succession of corners but could not find the winning goal.
Chelmsford City: Smith, Thompson, Vernon, Harman, Bell, Wells, Brownlie (Garrett), Cole, Drane, Ridings, Binks.
