 Brentwood Town 2 – 3 Chelmsford City

CHELMSFORD City gained three valuable points from Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash at Brentwood Town with a hard working performance.

Brentwood took the lead and Paula Drane equalised after she nipped in to beat Town goalkeeper Isaura Vian to a through ball, and rounding her before sliding the ball into an empty net.

City then went ahead when Emma Ridings sent in a shot that nestled in the bottom of the net.

The home side looked lively after the interval, and were soon level after Kerry Mills outpaced City’s defence before equalising with a well struck shot.

At the other end Drane had a near post effort from a corner superbly tipped round the post by Vian.

Jan Mooney was looking solid at the back for Chelmsford and it was following one of her interceptions that Shirley Cole played a pass to Ridings who rolled the ball into the net.

The game began to open up more and Natalie Madlin’s pace up front caused problems for Brentwood at the back while Town also created a number of good chances but was dealt with comfortably by City goalkeeper, Carly Waters.

This victory puts City up into fourth place and they meet basement dwellers Basildon United this Sunday.
