 Chelmsford City 5 – 2 Brentwood Town

A WONDERFUL display from Chelmsford put a major dent in Brentwood Town’s title hopes on Sunday, as fourth-placed City ran out 5-2 winners after dominating the second half of a fantastic game of football between two quality Essex teams.

Both teams were determined to take all the points from this local derby, with the visitors needing just a draw to secure the league title and promotion to the Premier Division.  City, on the other hand, were looking to keep their own play-off hopes alive.

City started well, with Kerri Binks firing them into the lead after just two minutes, Brentwood struck back with an outstanding goal from Kerry Mills, equalising.

Town then won a free-kick on the edge of the area and the ball curled to perfection sailed into the top of the net to put Brentwood ahead.

City began the second half well and Emma Wells, made no mistake in scoring her 10th goal of the season.

With everything to play for, both sides turned on the heat, with every City player playing with pride, and Binks and Ridings worked hard up front to keep the Town defence under pressure.

On 75 minutes Laura Brown put City into the lead with a thundering header past the Brentwood Goalkeeper, from a deep free kick.

Not content with just a one-goal lead, City continued to plug away and two minutes later the win was all but secured when Wells netted again.

Brentwood’s heads began to drop, and with just a minute left, Brown finished from close range.

City now have a two week break from competitive action before they face Haverhill Rovers in their last game of the season, in a game which will be vital in deciding who will finish first and second place in the league.
