ESSEX COUNTY WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE
DIVISION ONE
Sunday 30th November 2003
Chelmsford City 1 – 0 Colchester United
CHELMSFORD City entertained Colchester United at Barnston on Sunday, looking to avenge their defeat from earlier in the season.
City started slowly allowing Colchester a free shot on goal with in the first two minutes, only to see City goalkeeper Smith make a fingertip save.
Colchester produced several openings down the left flank, but City right back Paula Thompson was equal to the challenge by producing a string of perfectly timed tackles.
City took the lead after 20 minutes through Natalie Madlin, but the first half was end on a low for City when their central defender was shown the red card after a fracas.
City started the second half well, but came under pressure from Colchester whose strikers squandered chances.
City continued to battle hard, with Paula Drane holding the ball up well as the lone striker, and Sharon Brownlie producing some great crosses to boost the City attack.
This was by no means a pretty match to watch, but nevertheless produced some exciting moments as the Clarets finished with all three points.
