Chelmsford City 3 – 2 East Thurrock United

VISITORS to Barnston on Sunday, East Thurrock, showed Chelmsford their intentions right from the kick off by forcing the City goalkeeper into action within the first minutes of the match.

However, City showed that they were more than a match by creating a well worked opening by playing neat one touch football, which resulting in Emma Wells nipping in to tuck the ball into the net.

City then showed their resilience by soaking up lots of pressure from Thurrock, before settling into their usual neat passing football.

This allowed Emma Ridings to break free and poke the ball past the Thurrock goalkeeper to increase City’s lead.

The visitors showed their character by pressuring the City defence at every opportunity, with precision passing from midfield and they were rewarded with a goal after 25 minutes.

This unsettled City for a while, before they restored their two goal advantage through another fine finish from Ridings.

The second half saw City kicking into the strong wind and a Thurrock striker bundled the ball into the net to make it 3-2.

City continued to work hard and played neat, passing football to the end and protected their lead.

This win consolidates their search for honours as they are currently just behind the leading clubs and have games in hand.
