Kirkley 3 – 4 Chelmsford City
CITY made the long haul up to Lowestoft for the second week running, in anticipation of a straightforward win against their Eastern Region opponents.
However, an indifferent first-half display followed in the second period saw City just snatch the three points.
City started with some fluent moves, resulting in chances on goal for Sarah Jolly and Angela McPhee, and they went ahead on 20 minutes, when Jolly slotted the ball home.
Kirkley equalised within 10 minutes, a defensive error gifting them a goal.
A stunning goal from Sharon Brownlie was to be the difference between the two sides at the break, as on 35 minutes she picked up the ball on the left wing and struck a looping ball into the top of the net.
The two sides battled it out in a sloppy second-half, with City firstly netting via Kerri Binks to set up a two-goal cushion, but Kirkley netted again to make it 2 – 3.
City’s Ashleigh Harding put the result beyond doubt as she followed in an effort parried by the keeper to net her sixth goal of the season.
The home team netted again to set up a tense finish but City held out for the win.
