ESSEX COUNTY WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP

SECOND ROUND

 SUNDAY 16th November 2003

 Maldon Town 1 – 13 Chelmsford City

City made the perfect start on Sunday by taking the lead after just five seconds.  From the kick off the ball was laid back to Kerri Binks whose long range effort deceived the Town goalkeeper and the ball bounced over her head for a sensational start.

Four minutes later, Emma Wells converted Paula Drane’s cross and Drane then made it 3-0.

By half-time, City had extended their lead to 6-0 with Binks, Sharon Brownlie and an own-goal completing the first half goal tally.

Ten minutes after the restart, Binks netted her third and fourth goals to make it 8-0, and although Maldon pulled a goal back on 63 minutes, City made it 9-1 almost immediately through Drane.

Drane, City’s all time top goalscorer, netted three more goals, taking her tally for the day to five and Paula Thompson completed the scoring.

City have been drawn at home to fellow Division One side East Thurrock United in the quarter-finals on Sunday, January 4.
