ESSEX COUNTY WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

 Sunday 15th February 2004

Chelmsford City 6 – 0 Saffron Walden Town

CHELMSFORD took a third minute lead after Kerri Binks closed down a goal-kick before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the net.

They extended their lead  on 25 minutes following a superb interchange of passes between Lucy Garrett and Emma Ridings that culminated in Garrett firing a shot into the net.

In the 35th minute, Binks crossed to Ridings who confirmed her striking ability by netting with a clinical strike.

Four minutes later, Binks side-stepped her marker before netting City’s fourth goal.

The second half saw City make it 5-0 on 52 minutes when Shirley Cole reacted to score after the Walden goalkeeper could only parry Binks’ shot.

City’s sixth goal came on 73 minutes when Garrett drilled a low cross-cum-shot goal-ward, and a defender sliced her attempted clearance into the net.

This performance should fill the squad with confidence ahead of this Sunday’s County Cup semi-final tie against Barking
