 Chelmsford City 7 – 2 Stanway

CHELMSFORD recorded a comprehensive victory in their final pre-season friendly on Sunday, taking only three minutes to take the lead against their Eastern Region League opponents.

Youngster, Kerri Binks, made a strong run from the halfway line, beating two defenders before slotting the ball past the ‘keeper to open the scoring, and it was Binks again who extended City’s lead on 23 minutes with an almost carbon copy goal as City were dominating the play.

Stanway reduced the arrears on 23 minutes when they capitalised on City failing to clear the ball, but City were soon stepping up a gear and netted twice before half time through Paula Drane on 35 minutes and Emma Ridings on 37 minutes.

Stanway were looking more solid after the break, making City’s defence work hard in breaking down their swift counter-attack but City were always looking the more dangerous of the two sides when going forward.

Ridings netted her second and City’s fifth on 58 minutes, showing good skill inside the box following a good Drane cross before Dane herself added two more in the 64th and 71st minutes respectively.

The visitors reduced the arrears with a well-deserved goal in the 81st minute while, in the last few minutes at the other end, Ridings saw her well-struck volley rattle the Stanway crossbar.
