 Colchester United 7 – 0 Chelmsford City

 CHELMSFORD City’s hopes of winning back the Essex County Cup, a trophy they have lifted on no less than five occasions in the last 10 years, were sent crashing on a cold Sunday afternoon at the University of Essex.

    They were comprehensively beaten by a well-organised Colchester side who held a slender 1-0 lead at the interval.

    Colchester stole the show in the second half, with City reshuffled central defence and midfield being overrun by the pacey United strikers.

    Despite some brave goalkeeping from the deputising Amy Vernon, the home team went on to score six more goals to record a scoreline that flattered them some what.

    This was a naturally disappointing result for City who now need to pick themselves up for this Sunday’s league match at White Horse Seltic on the Suffolk coast.
