Hethersett Athletic 2 – 1 Chelmsford City
CHELMSFORD suffered their first league defeat of the season on Sunday, as a lively Hethersett side came away with all three points after a physical game between two promotion-pushing teams.
The home team broke the deadlock after a striker tore through the City defence to set up a one-on-one with goalkeeper Carly Waters whose out-stretched arm was not enough to prevent the ball ending up in the net to give Hethersett the lead.
The Clarets went into the second half determined but, as the game wore on, it became scrappier and the City players became frustrated at some of the challenges being put in by Hethersett.
However, they battled away regardless and were rewarded in the 60th minute when Emma Ridings levelled the score after converting a pass from Lucy Garrett in the centre of midfield.
But Hethersett came back just as strong and they took the lead once again on 70 minutes, by which time Chelmsford had become unsettled and despite numerous chances for the visitors, the score remained 2 – 1.
City must now pick themselves up before tonight’s (Wednesday) league fixture against Brentwood Town, (Kick off 7.30pm at the Brentwood Centre)
