Chelmsford City 3 Stevenage Borough 1
Sunday 21st September 2008, Marconi Leisure, Chelmsford. Kick Off 2pm, Eastern Region Women's League,
Premier Division.
City’s great start to the season continued with a win on Sunday against a Stevenage side who beat City twice last season.
City dominated the first half Lucy Garrett having an effort palmed over the bar by quick reactions of the Borough keeper. Claire Pavett provided the perfect ball to Emma Ridings but her shot went over the bar.
Helen Alder and Ridings
had efforts go wide while Stevenage’s only effort of the half saw Jade Parker in
goal quick off the line to save. City had a further four chances that they
failed to capitalise on before finally breaking the deadlock after Laura Brown
set up Ridings who made no mistake. It was not long before City had
doubled their lead following a dipping corner by Garrett that was diverted by an
unfortunate defender in to her own net.
Pavett had an early free kick dealt with by the keeper and Michelle Davis
fired in an effort that was punched away by the keeper as City started the
second half where they left off. Brown had a powerful strike saved well before
Borough reduced the deficit with a well taken goal after City looked to have
switched off for a spell.
This spurred City into action with further chances from Pavett and Ridings which went over the bar.
Stevenage had their fair share of the chances with close efforts the best, a crisp shot rattling the City crossbar then another shot well saved by Parker.
City continued to put the result beyond doubt and eventually netted a third late on. Ridings held the ball up well before combining Brown before Jade Nelson set up Emma Wells who netted City's third.
Stevenage had the last chance of the game with a header from a well taken corner which flew just wide but it was City who maintained their 100% start to the season.
