Barking 1 Chelmsford City 1
Sunday 15th March 2009 at Mayesbrook Park, Lodge Avenue, Dagenham RM8 2JR, Kick Off 2.00pm, Eastern Region Women's League Premier Division.
City travelled to Barking for their second
meeting of the season in which promised to
be an eventful afternoon after their
previous close meeting which saw City fight
back from two goals down to win 3-2.
Barking started brightly but City's Leanne
Stubbings, Georgia Wheate and Helen Alder
worked tirelessly to break down their build
up play. City had the first real chance of a
scrappy game, Laura Brown's shot held by the
home keeper and moments later, Sarah Jolly
and Brown linked up well in the box, but the
home side keeper was out early off her line
to clear.
City's Claire Pavett weaved her way through the Barking midfield and defence only to be brought down just outside the box with the resulting free kick skimming the top of the Barking crossbar bar. City’s persistence eventually paid off when Player of the Match, ZoeTaylor used her pace to earn a corner which Stubbings placed perfectly to Jolly who converted to put City in front.
Barking
had a shot dealt with by the safe handling
of Jade Parker in the City goal in the dying
minutes of the half btu it was the Clarets
who enjoyed a slender one goal lead at the
break.
The second half saw the home side
resulting to long balls up to the attackers
and they started to dominate. Barking earnt
their first corner of the game and very
nearly scored but Stubbings was perfectly
placed to clear the ball off the line to
keep the home side at bay.
City's Jolly and Brown had fine efforts go
just wide of the post but Barking's
persistence eventually paid off and a lobbed
shot from the edge of the box ball looped
over Parker and into the City net to level
the scores.
The game finished with Barking pushing
forward but found a solid City side
comfortably clear any danger to claim a
point.
