Peterborough 0 Chelmsford City 4
Sunday 1st March 2009 at Hinchingbrooke School, off Brampton Road, Huntingdon. Kick Off 3.00pm, Eastern Region Women’s League Premier Division.

After a late kick, both teams started brightly looking to control the possession and putting each defence under pressure. City were looking to be back at their best with some wonderful one touch passing football which scythed open the home side at times. With only 10 minutes played, City went a goal ahead, Laura Brown trying her luck only for the keeper to make a mistake and the marauding Sarah Jolly to put the ball into the back of the net.

City continued with excellent interchanging of passing with the entire team closing down and pressuring the ball, not allowing the home side to settle. The pressure almost paid off as Brown saw an effort go just wide then, Zoe Taylor ran with the ball only for shot on goal to be well saved.

Peterborough slowly came more into the game, putting City under a bit of pressure but it was City who looked the more likely to score. Jolly, Amy Vernon and Helen Alder, all had good efforts before they netted a deserved second before the break. Brown made a weaving run into the box, only to be brought down and City Captain Claire Pavett stepped up and made no mistake, burying the penalty into the bottom corner, to make it 2-0 at half time.
Pavett had an early shot after the break which went just over as City started how they finished the first 45 minutes, applying lots of pressure.

On the hour mark City made two substitutions who made an immediate impact on the game for City. Grainne McLaughlin, Tara Britton and Sharon Brownlie linked up with an excellent passing interchange  which opened up the home side as City began to dominate the game once again. The hard work paid off after winning a free kick, Claire Pavett’s free kick was spilled by the keeper and Brown pounced to extend City’s lead.

City continued to pile on the pressure, McLaughlin having a good shot saved well. She continued to have an effect on the game with some neat footwork, played a superb pass to Brown who turned her defender and shoot past the stunned keeper for her second of the game.

City continued to dominate the final ten minutes but were unable to add to the score but had done enough to secure three well earned points.

Chelmsford City: Parker, Stubbings (Britton), Wheate, Pavett, Vernon, Taylor, Brownlie, Davis (McLaughlin), Alder, Jolly and Brown.
