Chelmsford City Friendly Against Welwyn Garden City
City's first pre season friendly was against Welwyn Garden City who play in the
South East Combination league, and who narrowly missed out on being promoted to
the Southern Premier League.
City started the game well with a link up between Alder Wells and Jolly whose
effort was caught by the keeper. The home team followed up with an attack and
their effort was just wide. City had a free kick awarded and new Signing Jade
Nelson, soaring effort was just wide of the goal. We again counter attacked and
City's keeper Topper was early to the ball to deny the home team a lead. Welwyn
Garden City continued to threat and their hard work paid off with an amazing run
and a fine goal to give the home side a lead. City other new promising signing
defender Georgia Wheate was on hand to made some crucial tackles to deny the
home side getting into the box. Welwyn Garden City had three further efforts
before the break and they were both saved by city's keeper.
The second half see the fresh legs of Brown making an immediate impact with a
debut on the wing setting up Jolly for a run that was blocked by the strong
defence. Jemma Bell, Wheate, Pavett, Vernon and Kendle worked tirelessly to keep
the home sides strikers at bay. Nelson had another fine effort caught by the
keeper. City had further efforts from Brown and Wells saved. Welwyn Garden City
continued to attack, but city's keeper made an excellent double saved once with
her hands and then flipping up into the air to use her feet, but unfortunately
the home side followed up putting the ball into the net. Brown had another
effort fly just over the bar and Wells had her fine shot cleared off the line.
The home side scored two further goals but city never gave up and a Nelson free
kick rattled the bar, city were unlucky not to have scored. Garret took city's
last attacking ball but her free kick was caught well by the hard working
keeper.
Final score: 4-0 Welwyn Garden City.

Manager Andrews commented the girls worked so hard today and new signings
Georgia Wheate, Jade Nelson, and Jemma Bell have already settled into the team.
The whole team was impressed with their performance. Great debuts well done.
Also a very well done, and a welcome back to Sarah Jolly who worked her socks
off and earned city's player of the match.
