Hethersett Athletic 1 Chelmsford City 2
Sunday 16th November 2008, Easton College, Norwich. Kick Off 2.00pm. Eastern Region Women's League  Premier Division.

Goals from Jasmine Wheeler and Laura Brown secured another valuable three points for City which moved them back to the top of the Premier Division table on Sunday. A strong first half display set City on the road to victory in Norfolk against a Hethersett side lying one place below  them in third place..

Wheeler made life difficult for the home side from the start, her devastating runs down the wing saw  Hetherset struggle to combat her pace. After a couple of half chances from the Hetherset, City began to dominate and they played quick one touch football for the remainder of the half. Emma Ridings and Wheeler linked up well and when Hetherset counter-attacked, found new signing Leanne Stubbings a tower of strength.

Michelle Davis and Sharon Brownlie dominated the midfield with Emma Wells using her pace down the right. It was her pass to Ridings who intelligently squared the ball to Wheeler whose left footed shot rocketed into the net to give City the lead.

Ridings then held up the ball well and provided another superb bal to Wheeler but her shot went inches wide as City pressurised. Davis was fouled on the edge of the box and Claire Pavett floated an inch perfect ball onto the head of Laura Brown but her header was deflected for a corner. The resultant kick resulted in a scramble with Wells unable to capitalise.

Following a number of chances, City’s dominance finally paid off when City's Player of the Match Brownlie, swept the ball forward to Wells who crossed to Brown who controlled before stroking the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0.

The second half saw Hetherset come more into the game and had an early effort cleared by Georgia Wheate. At the other end, City’s Claire PaWheeler had a shot go wide after a neat back heel by Ridings opened up the defence and Stubbings put in a good deep cross into the box but Ridings’ header was well caught by the keeper.

City brought on Helen Alder and Sarah Jolly, who nearly made an immediate impact, both closing the ball down at every opportunity. City should have made the game safe with a number of chances going begging and nearly paid the price when a Hetherset forward capitalised on being given a bit too much time on the ball to pull a goal back but City looked comfortable for their win.

A superb debut by City’s new signing Leanne Stubbings whose tireless work rate and tenacious tackling will see her as a real asset to the team.
