Chelmsford City Reserves 3 Torquespeed 0

Sunday 21st September 2008, Marconi Leisure, Chelmsford. Kick Off 2pm, Essex County Women's League Division Two.

City Ladies made the perfect start to their campaign with a deserved victory against a dogged Torquespeed on Sunday.

In the first ever meeting between the two sides, City enjoyed the majority of possession throughout although their Tiptree based opponents always looked dangerous on the break.

City’s inventive and tricky front pairing of Grainne McLaughlin and Letitia Cleary caused problems for the Torquespeed defence all afternoon and it was McLaughlin who gave City the lead with a well taken first competitive goal for the Club.

On the stroke of half time, City doubled their lead, the ball falling to Rachel Brett who powered an unstoppable left foot strike through the crowded area and past the static keeper.

The second half continued in the same vein, City playing the ball forward well, forcing the vistors  to defend for spells while City’s defence dealt with Torquespeed’s counter-attacks well.

City brought on the Angela Holden whose strength caused more problems for the tiring defence and it was not long before the result was put beyond doubt. Cleary had a couple of efforts blocked in the 6 yard box before Jo Millar side footed the ball past the keeper at the near post.

This was a solid, professional looking performance by City who will now entertain newly promoted Hutton this coming Sunday (28th Sept) at Marconi Leisure, West Hanningfield Road, kick off 2.00pm.
