Chelmsford City Reserves 3 Hutton 2
Sunday 28th September 2008, Marconi Leisure, West Hanningfield Road. Kick Off 2.00pm Essex County Women's League Division Two.
Goals from last seasons City Ladies Under 16 players secured a second successive league victory on Sunday, maintaining their great start to the season.
Newly promoted Hutton were going to be a strong test and they made a strong opening but City looked composed and comfortable, soon settling down. Both teams created half chances and on 20 mins City took the lead when Hannah Magner fired an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box that left the Hutton keeper rooted to the spot.
The scoreline stayed the same until minutes before the break when Letitia Cleary opened her seasons account, volleying home a Magner corner to extend City’s lead. The following minute, Hutton pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after a City defender was adjudged to have handled in the box. City’s keeper Clare Pearson saved the initial spot kick and was quick to save the follow up but the ball was eventually forced over the line.
Ten minutes into the second half, Hutton drew level following hesitation between keeper and defence allowed a forward to nip in and score. City’s Grainne McLaughlin was unfortunate to be denied by the woodwork on a couple of occasions before the match had a lengthy delay due to an unfortunate Hutton player who broke her collarbone.
On the resumption both teams went in search of the winning goal and it arrived in City’s favour with ten minutes remaining when Alice MacInnes stole in at the far post to tap home following a goalmouth scramble.
All at Chelmsford would like to wish the Hutton player a speedy recovery.
