Cambridge United 2 Chelmsford City 3

Sunday 18th January 1009, Marconi Leisure, West Hanniungfield Road. Kick Off 2.00pm, Eastern Region Women's League Cup 1st Round

This long awaited Cup game went ahead after Cambridge’s pitch was waterlogged early in the morning. The match was hastily re-arranged at the last minute to City’s ground at Marconi Leisure and City made sure they were in the hat for the next round following a narrow 3-2 victory.

City dominated the game territorially and looked to have the game won comfortably but a late goal by the visitors bringing the scoreline back to 3-2 saw an anxious final ten minutes for the Clarets.

Earlier, two goals from Emma Ridings and another from Sarah Jolly saw City leading 3-1 but the away side, who are currently bottom of the league, were not prepared to go down without a fight and pushed City all the way.

Chelmsford City: Topper, Taylor, Pavett (Wheeler), Stubbings, Vernon, Davis (Garrett), Brownlie, Brown, Alder (Wells), Ridings and Jolly.

Player of the Match: Sharon Brownlie
Referee: Paul Falvey (Hockley)
