Chelmsford City 1
Colchester Town 1
Essex County Girls League Under-13 Division 1, Sunday February 22nd,
2.00pm kick-off at Marconi Leisure, Chelmsford.
This was a very welcome and deserved point for Chelmsford City following four successive defeats. Having fallen behind after four minutes the omens didn't look good against a very solid and well-organised Colchester team, the visitors scoring from the first meaningful attack of the game.
However, the hosts soon regained their composure and pieced together several promising moves, one of which saw Olivia Robinson's shot safely held, whilst Town were hard-pushed to survive a goalmouth scramble. It was though City who were even more fortunate in the 32nd minute when a Colchester forward rounded goalkeeper Gemma Plank only to hit the post with the goal gaping.
That proved decisive as City went straight up the opposite end to equalize. Sophie Dorrington's fierce drive was too hot to handle for the Colchester 'keeper and Jennifer Baldock easily tucked in the loose ball from a few yards.
After the break chances came and went for both sides and City were indebted to 'Girl of the Match' Plank who kept Town at bay with a number of crucial saves, her expertise belying the fact that it was her first time between the posts. Dorrington and Baldock were both just off target during the latter stages but overall it was still a positive result for the Clarets.
