Little Thurrock Dynamos 'Ravens' 1 Chelmsford City 3
Sunday 18th
January 1009, Orsett Cock roundabout, A13, Kick Off 11.30am, Essex County Girls
League Under 14 B Division
A below strength City side travelled to
Orsett to play their first game of 2009. It has been a month since our last
outing and it showed as the girls made hard work of things against the bottom of
the league side.
Inez Hockaday worked tirelessly on her own up front and missed a couple of good opportunities before firing City ahead after excellent work on the right by Hannah Doherty. She cut the ball back to Hockaday who finished coolly into the bottom corner.
With some harsh words said at half time, City looked to make amends in the second half and it didn't take long for Hockaday to hit her second of the game, rifling in a shot from just inside the box.
This spurred City on and despite Ravens making things difficult goal number three came mid-way through the second half. A poor clearance following a City free kick fell to Tayla Peel who struck the ball home from 25 yards, straight through a crowd of Ravens players and through the unsighted goalkeepers legs.
With 10 minutes remaining, City lost the influential Hockaday to an ankle injury that will hopefully prove not to be too serious. A lapse in concentration allowed the Ravens to break quickly and pull a goal back, but City held on for their 5th straight win of the season, which sees them sitting undefeated at the top of league.
