 Chelmsford City 8 – 0 Coddenham

FROM the kick-off Chelmsford piled on the pressure while a weakened Coddenham played the defensive tactic of pulling all their players behind the ball.  After five minutes, Chelmsford’s captain Jemma Bell floated a cross from the right, where Sarah Jolly took advantage of a keeper’s mistake to make it 1-0 with a low shot past the keeper.

The Coddenham defence worked hard as City were finding it a struggle to put a shot in on goal.  But a great run from the inform Natalie Madlin on 20 minutes produced the second goal as she ran past the defender and put in a low cross to Jolly who made it 2-0.  Ten minutes later Kerri Binks made it 3-0 with a cross-cum-shot and on 35 minutes Bell saw her produce a 20 yard lob over the keeper for City’s fourth.

Coddenham were still battling hard but a couple of minutes later Kelly Gentle got her first goal for the club after a great run in the box saw her strike home City’s fifth goal.  City continued to create a number of chances before the break and it wasn’t long before they netted a sixth.  A great lobbed pass from Gentle found Emma Ridings in the box who volleyed past the on coming keeper.

The second half was much the same with Chelmsford having most of the possession but they failed to convert their chances into goals.  The visitors created their first chance of the game after 55 minutes but City’s young defender Laura Kendle saw off the danger with a goal-line clearance.

With ten minutes remaining Audrey Dinan saw her 20-yard shot scream past the Coddenham keeper to make it 7-0.  Minutes before the end, City were awarded a penalty and City’s keeper Vanessa Smith stepped up and slotted the ball in the bottom-right corner for the eighth and final goal of the game.

Credit must go to Coddenham who continued to battle and gave 100% right up to the final whistle.
