DOUBLE HEADER
Game Two
Chelmsford City 4 – 0 Corton Ladies
Only a 15-minute flurry of goals towards the end of this game ensured that City gained maximum points from their double header against Corton Ladies.
Chelmsford continued the good work of the first game into this new match, with some slick passing moves and relentless attacking play earning them several corners. Sarah Jolly was unlucky not to give City a first-half lead, as her powerful effort ended up on the wrong side of the post.
Vanessa Smith’s second-half introduction had an immediate impact on the game, with a wonderfully-struck free kick landing at the feet of Emma Ridings, who duly netted City’s first goal of the game. Smith herself grabbed City’s second with a thundering effort, and Sharon Brownlie secured the win late on in the half as she latched onto a looping ball in the penalty area. With just a few minutes left to play, City remained strong at the back to hold on to their deserved clean sheet, and a good through ball from the defence set Emma Ridings on her way as she skipped past two Corton defenders before burying the ball for goal number four.
