EASTERN REGION WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE
DIVISION ONE EAST
Sunday 29th August 2004
Chelmsford City 3 – 4 Fakenham & Aylsham
HAVING won the Essex County League last season, Chelmsford City were hoping to get a winning start to their season after stepping up a league in the pyramid system.
City went close to opening the scoring on 15 minutes. Lucy Garrett’s excellent free kick strike hit the crossbar and the rebound was scrambled clear.
Fakenham took the lead after 20 minutes with a simple tap in from close range as City fell further behind on 35 minutes following a slick passing move.
The visitors extended their advantage to 3-0, but straight from the restart, City reduced the deficit, Kerri Binks bravely out-jumping the goalkeeper to head a looping cross into the net.
City pulled another goal back on 70 minutes when Emma Ridings struck the ball home.
City’s continued determination was rewarded ten minutes later when Ridings levelled the scores with a fine strike.
City pushed forward for the winner but were dealt a cruel blow in injury time with Fakenham caught City out to net the winning goal.
This Sunday, City travel to play Premier Division Haringey Borough in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Women’s Cup.
