EASTERN REGION WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE

PLATE COMPETITION – FIRST ROUND

 Sunday 9th January 2005

FOLLOWING the tragic events of the Tsunami in South Asia, Chelmsford City Ladies & Girls Football Club, donated all match fees from the weekends games which totalled over £150 to the Appeal Fund. Zurich Insurance Company have agreed to match this total.

Loddon United 2 – 0 Chelmsford City

CITY were slow to get out of the starting blocks, and Loddon dominated first 15 minutes although City were putting up a good battle considering they were fielding a patched up team.

The home side took the lead after 25 minutes when a Loddon striker ran through the City defence before drilling a low shot into the net.

Ten minutes later, Loddon took advantage of a defensive error to make it 2-0.

The home side came close to increasing their lead just before the break following a low cross and a well struck shot that was saved by City goalkeeper Vanessa Smith.

The second half started with Loddon piling on pressure but with some outstanding defending by Zoe Taylor, they were unable to add to their tally.

A brave tackle from Emma Wells saw her limp off with possible ligament damage, which saw the introduction of the experienced Jan Mooney to add some fight into the middle of the park.

The final 20 minutes saw City push Loddon back into their own half, but the pressure failed to be converted into goals, mainly due to good defending by the home team.

CHELMSFORD CITY: Vanessa Smith, Martine Harman, Emma Wells, Emma Ridings, Zoe Taylor, Sarah Jolly, Sharon Brownlie, Lucy Garrett, Kelly Gentle, Lisa Napean, Natalie Madlin and Jan Mooney.
