MALDON TOWN 0 – 5 CHELMSFORD CITY
A SENSATIONAL start to Sunday’s match saw Chelmsford City net arguably the fastest goal of the season, after only 20 seconds.
Lucy Garrett and Claire Hunt combined to set Emma Ridings up to score.
City extended their lead on 18 minutes after Lisa Foakes threaded a fine ball to Ridings who saw her initial effort saved but calmly rounded two defenders to slot home the rebound.
City goalkeeper Clare Pearson kept her nerve to save a Maldon penalty on the half hour before Ridings turned a defender from an Elizabeth Marshall throw before slotting the ball home on the stroke of half time.
Maldon created a number of chances, which included striking the City crossbar during the opening 20 minutes after the break.
Two late goals, in the 85th and 87th minutes, sealed the points for City, both netted by Emma Ridings who completed a fine day with a personal tally of five goals.
The first saw Ridings finishing a fine cross by Foakes, and Ridings completed the scoring by heading home a deep Garrett free kick.
