Chelmsford
City rounded off their pre-season friendlies with a morale boosting win
against Premier Division opposition on Sunday.
Both teams
started brightly with end to end football but City soon started to
dominate the game, maintaining most of the possession. With City looking
the most likely to open the scoring, it was the home side who took the
lead midway through the half. Beacon Hill’s Emma Page struck a 30
yards rasping shot which flew past the City Keepers despairing effort
into the back of the net.
City never gave up
and continued to play some excellent football worked on through out
pre-season but Beacon Hill were defending well with bodies behind the
ball. Within ten minutes of going behind, City were level when Sarah
Jolly latched onto a through ball and buried it into the back of the
net with a clinical finish.
Five minutes
before half time, new signing Katie Gibson made a excellent run down the
wing before putting in a dangerous cross which hit the near post before
falling at the feet of Rachel Armstrong, who kept her cool to
stroke the ball home from close range.
Beacon Hill came out sharp and strong after the break and started off
as the brightest of the two teams. As the half went on City came into
their own again, keeping possession, passing the ball well and attacking
at every opportunity. Although the half was action packed, there were no
further goals and the match ended 2-1 to City, Beacon Hill defending
excellently but City dominating the game.
Chelmsford’s new Managers Jemma Bell commented after, ‘It was an
excellent match to watch and a great game of football. I would like to
say thank you to Beacon Hill for the game that they tested us in areas
and made my team work to their full potential which was just what we
needed.
A massive well done
to the City players who all worked hard throughout the full 90mins. I
saw a lot of improvement today and lots of good football that we have
worked on through out pre-season. The win was just what we needed a week
before our season starts and a special mention to our goal scorer's
Sarah Jolly and Rachel Armstrong - well done’.
