U10s Match Reports:

Under 10 Friendly

Assandun Vikings 3 Chelmsford City 3

The match got off to a rainy start with the heavens opening almost from the first whistle. City started well and opened the scoring after only 5 mins following a good cross from Melissa Burton which was converted by Sophie Vale.

Assandun came back strongly, determined to get back on level terms and equalised on 20 mins.  A short half time break saw Assandun come out strongly and net two quick goals to lead 3-1 but City battled hard and Vale netted her 2nd with 15 minutes left. City’s defence looked solid for the remainder of the game, Coutney Green and Brooke Green outstanding and with 4 mins remaining, Charlotte Barnard netted the vital equaliser for the ‘Clarets’ following another inch perfect pass by Burton.

Honours were even at the final whistle with a draw a fair result. City play Hutton this coming Sunday afternoon (20th April).

Under 10

Brentwood Town 0 Chelmsford City 9

City’s U10 side played a slightly younger, less experienced Brentwood side on Saturday and the final score reflected this. Goals from Charlotte Barnard 4, Sophie Vale 3 and Melissa Burton 2 saw City profit from good passing football, working hard for each other all game.

Brentwood never gave up throughout with a battling and determined display and improved immensely as the game progressed and will surely improve further as they play more matches. The match was played in a good sporting spirit by both teams.

Chelmsford City 3 Assandun Vikings 1

Chelmsford and Assandun put on a superb game of football to warm the crowd on a chilly Saturday morning. Assandun started very brightly during the opening stages but City soon found their feet to take an early lead. A timely tackle at the back by Katrina Dougal, broke down the Vikings attack, moving the ball forward where Megan Turner combined well with Gabby Hill on the right and Sophie Vale timing her run to perfection and convert in the box.

Both sides had agreed to play the match in three equal periods and the second period started with Megan Turner having a good run but shot straight at the keeper.  Ria Toovey was looking dangerous on the ball for the visitors, shhoting wide after a fine run and moments later, looked ready to equalise but City defender Aimee Turner got back to provide a superb last ditch tackle. In the last minute, City’s Melissa Burton had a good low shot which was well saved by the keeper.

The final period started with Assandun looking strong and it was not long before Toovey levelled the scores following a scramble in the City box. A minute later, Vale had a great chance at the other end but her shot went inches wide of the post.

City regained their lead midway through the period after Charlotte Barnard won possession in the middle of the park, evading a couple of tackles before firing a low shot inside the near post.

Vale had another fine effort well saved by the keeper before City extended their lead after Burton provided a perfect ball forward to Barnard. She coolly beat two defenders before drilling a left foot shot into the net.

At the end both teams were deservedly applauded off the pitch by the sizeable crowd for their skill, effort and sporting play throughout.
