City eventually overcame their opponents after an epic encounter in freezing conditions, to book a semi final place on Sunday. This game was never going to be easy against their Western Division opponents and the first half was very even in play as both sides warmed the frozen crowd with entertaining end to end football in what can only be described as ‘Arctic’ conditions. . It was a case of the home side squandering chances while City looked clinical at the other end and enjoyed a three goal lead at the break through two goals from Sophie Vale and a Charlotte Barnard strike. City took their foot off the gas and a resurgent home team took advantage as they slowly pegged the scoreline back to 3-2 but this only prompted City to return to their passing football which opened up Tigers and Vale netted a fourth which looked to have sealed victory. As the game entered it’s final period, Tigers drew level with two well taken goals, the equalizer, a superbly struck free kick which City’s keeper tipped onto the underside of the bar but the ball still managed to creep in. Extra time still could not separate the two teams which meant a penalty shoot-out which saw both keepers continuously deny their opponents before Sophie Vale converted her spot kick which left Anna Cornish to save her opponents kick to seal a victory and a tie with Hutton in the semi final.
