Chelmsford City 0 Leigh Ramblers 0
Sunday 22nd March 2009 at Marconi Leisure, West Hanningfield Road, Chelmsford CM1 6HN. Kick Off 1.30pm, Essex County Girls League Under 11 Division 1.

A battling performance from Chelmsford secured a creditable draw against the league leaders on Sunday and may even have snatched a win in the closing stages with two close efforts.

the first half saw the away side playing neat passing football but City always looked dangerous with their swift counter-attacks but both defences dominated.

After the break, the game was fairly even, City’s Player of the Match Aimee Turner making a number of timely interceptions and when the defence was penetrated, the safe, confident handling of Anna Copping in the City goal kept the scoreline goalless.

City created chances of their own without really forcing the Ramblers keeper into a serious save until the game entered it’s latter stages. Charlotte Barnard broke through the defence but saw her shot go wide while Sophie Vale had a couple of efforts, one pulled wide of the past while the keeper turned another shot across the face of the goal, round for a corner.

In the end, it was a deserved point for City to show for their efforts as they prepare for this coming Sunday’s League Cup Semi-Final against Hutton.

Chelmsford City: Copping, Turner, Woodward, Payne, Edwards, Seymour, Burton, Barnard, Vale, Hill and Twaite.

Player of the Match: Aimee Turner
