Under 12’s Spring Plate

Chelmsford City 1 Maldon Saints 0

City started much the stronger side, their positive football pushing the visitors onto the back foot. Maldon managed to keep City’s attacks at bay for a while, but after ten minutes the home team made the breakthrough when City midfielder Sophie Dorrington skilfully went past several Maldon players and rifled a shot into the back of the net to take the score to 1-0. City continued to pressurize the visitors for the remainder of the half but could not add to their goal tally.

Going into the second half City continued to play with assurance, their players constantly pressurising the visitor’s defences, their free flowing football was a real handful for the visitors. Several goal mouth scrambles ensued, but the chances carved out could not be converted. In their penultimate game of the season Chelmsford City played with real quality and assurance, they were a testament to how far they have progressed this season.

Chelmsford City’s player of the match was awarded to Emily Kendle who had an excellent game in midfield.
City must now look forward to their last game of the season when they play host to Little Thurrock Dynamos in two week’s time.

Leigh Ramblers 3 Chelmsford City 1

Both sides started the half playing open attacking football, but it was the home team who took an early advantage after five minutes courtesy of a well-taken shot from six yards. Not to be outdone City applied pressure to the home team’s defences and were unlucky shortly after when a goalmouth scramble could not be converted. City continued to press forward and levelled the score line when Gemma Plank skilfully went past several Leigh players and powered a shot into the corner of the goal to take the score to 1-1.

The second half played out much like the first with both sides playing open football, but it was the home side that made the breakthrough after ten minutes when a loose ball was pounced on in the City six-yard area to take the score to 2-1. Undeterred, City continued to play a neat passing game and were unlucky not to even the score line when Ailish Hunt’s shot was well saved by Leigh’s ‘keeper. Shortly before the final whistle the home team scored another goal to take the final score to 3-1, but this was no reflection of an evenly contested football match in which Chelmsford City once again played terrific football. 

City’s player of the match was awarded to defender Leanne Miles who had a superb game.

Chelmsford City 3 Leigh Rockets 1

Chelmsford City started the match playing sparkling football, their confidence was apparent from their free-flowing interchanges. Straight from the start they put the visitors under pressure but could not convert their chances for much of the first half.

Going into the second half, the visitors took the lead when a loose ball in the City penalty area was smashed into City’s goal. Now Chelmsford began to dig deep and pressed on, they levelled the score when midfielder Sophie Dorrington pushed forward and her well-aimed shot flew past the visitors ‘keeper. With confidence now high, City continued to press forward, and when a Rocket’s player was adjudged to have handled in the area it was Dorrington who coolly strode up to the spot to power the ball into the net, taking the score to 2-1. Leigh Rockets tried to get back into the game, but found City’s defence too strong. Just before the final whistle Dorrington rounded off a wonderful performance by scoring her third goal taking the final scoreline to 3-1.

Chelmsford City turned out an effervescent display of football that positively shone with confidence throughout the entire team.

City’s player of the match was awarded to defender Hannah Tomsett whose resolute display of defending was outstanding.

Chelmsford 1 Hutton 5

Chelmsford City started very brightly, playing positive football for the first fifteen minutes or so. Shortly after City ‘keeper Christie Lucking made a terrific point blank save, but had no chance when a Hutton player’s shot found the back of the net taking the score to 0-1. Not to be outdone City pressed forward, Jade Murrell’s lob found Olivia Robinson who skilfully rounded the ‘keeper and placed the ball in the back of the net to level the scoreline. City soaked up the visitor’s pressure well, but fell behind to another Hutton goal shortly before the end of the half.

Going into the second half Hutton began to pressurize City’s defences further and grabbed two goals in a short space of time, taking the score to 1-4. City tried to create chances, a goalmouth scramble in Hutton’s penalty area shortly after fell kindly to a Hutton defender who cleared the ball off the line, but it was the visitors who extended their lead with another goal taking the final score to 1-5.

Chelmsford City played some of their best football of the season, with neat interplay and positive football. City’s player of the match was awarded to Goalkeeper Christie Lucking who had an outstanding game.

Chelmsford City 4 Torquespeed 1

Chelmsford started brightly and made their intentions clear when after five minutes there was neat interplay between City’s players in the visitors penalty area and striker Gemma Plank made no mistake in finding the back of the net. Torquespeed’s heads however did not go down and pulled one back shortly after leaving the home side slightly shell-shocked. City found they had to dig deep to find a way past the visitor’s defences and were rewarded fifteen minutes into the half when Hannah Tomsett’s pass found Emily Kendle who made no mistake to take the score line to 2-1. City pressed further on and the score was taken to 3-1 when Olivia Robinson skilfully took the ball past several Torquespeed players and fired a well placed shot into the back of the net, making the score 3-1 at the end of the first half.

Almost as soon as the second half started City scored again, courtesy of Emily Kendle which made the score 4-1. Torquespeed tried hard to get themselves back in the match, springing numerous offside traps that City fell into, but found themselves up against a resolute City defence that did not waver.

Chelmsford City’s player of the match was awarded to striker Gemma Plank who was a constant thorn in the side of the Torquespeed defence.

Under 12 Division B

Brentwood Town 3 Chelmsford City 0

Both sides started brightly, but the home team took the early advantage when shortly after a Brentwood corner a loose ball was pounced on by their player and smashed into the roof of City’s net. Shortly after the home team doubled their score taking the score line to 2-0. After the shock of conceding two goals so early City now played with determination, trying to get back into the game. Both sides played out the remaining half with positive attacking football but the score remained the same until the whistle.

Going into the second half both sides continued to play open football but it was the home team who once again took their chance well to take the score to 3-0. City gave everything to try and get a result, with Laura Massey going closest, but just when the ball was in the back of the net she was adjudged offside.

This was a typically gritty, determined display by City who fielded two debutants, Christie Lucking in goal and Jennifer Baldock, both gave excellent performances, but it was the performance of midfielder Laura Massey that shone earning her accolade of player of the match.

Romford Borough 5 Chelmsford City 2

On a chilly February morning Romford Borough played host to Chelmsford City. Over the whole match City played the better football but it was the home team who took all the points courtesy of a few well-taken chances.

City took the lead in the first minute when striker Ailish Hunt pounced on a loose ball. This invigorated City who now played with confidence, passing the ball well and creating chances. But try as they might, the visitors could not find the back of the net. The home team created a few chances towards the end of the first half and were rewarded with two goals, much against the run of play.

Going into the second half, both teams started brightly but it was City who pulled a goal back when Sophie Dorrington coolly slotted home on the far post. The remainder of the half saw both teams play well, but once again it was the home team who took advantage of their opportunities on goal, taking the final score line to 5-2.

Chelmsford City’s player of the match was awarded to striker Ailish Hunt who was a constant threat on Romford’s defences.

Chelmsford City 2 Hawkwell Athletic 2

Chelmsford City played host to Hawkwell Athletic in their first game of 2008, but both sides had to settle for a point in a closely fought match.

The visitors put the home team under pressure from the start, but it was City goalkeeper Hannah Tomsett who pulled off a great save after five minutes to deny Hawkwell an advantage. Fifteen minutes into the half, Chelmsford started to step up the pace, their forwards making life difficult for the visitor’s defences. The deadlock was broken shortly after when after receiving the ball twenty yards out, Olivia Robinson skilfully lobbed the Hawkwell ‘keeper to take the score to 1-0. The game now ebbed and flowed and the visitors were rewarded five minutes later when a loose ball was slotted into the net, taking the score to 1-1 at the end of the first half. The visitors would have scored more, but City goalkeeper Hannah Tomsett made a string of fantastic saves to keep the score at 1-1.

Going into the second half, both teams once again played open football which resulted in chances at both ends. But it was City who took the lead when the Hawkwell goalkeeper dropped the ball at the feet of Laura Massey who put the ball into the back of the net, taking the score to 2-1. Not to be outdone, Hawkwell kept up the pressure and scored five minutes later, taking the final score to 2-2.

Chelmsford City’s player of the match was awarded to defender Jade Murrell who had an outstanding game in the heart of City’s defence.

Torquespeed 0 Chelmsford City 4

A hard working and classy Chelmsford City were too much for Torquespeed to contain and it was the visitors who took all the points on a wet and windy December morning.

Both teams found the conditions difficult, but it was City who had the upper hand with their passing and movement and were unlucky when Sophie Dorrington’s strike just missed the goal. City played well for the remainder of the half, but could not convert their chances.

Going into the second half, City again probed Torquespeed’s defences and were rewarded with a cracking goal when Emily Kendle’s volley powered into the top left hand corner to take the score to 0-1. City were now playing with real confidence and it was striker Gemma Plank who made no mistake with chances that came to her, netting two goals in the space of ten minutes taking the scoreline to 0-3. Chelmsford didn’t take their foot off the gas and shortly after the scoreline was 0-4, when Sophie Dorrington slotted home. City midfielder Karina Fox was unlucky to be adjudged offside when a shot found the back of the net, but there were no complaints about a classy performance by Chelmsford City.

Chelmsford City 0 Brentwood Town 6

With only eight players available at the start, Chelmsford City played out a sparkling first half against title league contenders Brentwood Town with chances being created at both ends. Chelmsford City were resolute with goalkeeper Olivia Robinson playing confidently in goal and managed to create lots of chances, but were undone just at the end of the half when a Brentwood player pounced on a loose ball to take the score to 0-1.

At the start of the second half, Brentwood came straight off their blocks and within the space of five minutes fired three goals past a shell-shocked home team. City managed to pull themselves together after a while and got back into the game, but the visitors managed to assert themselves and take the final score line to 0-6.

City’s defence had a superb game but player of the match was awarded to Leanne Miles for her resolute defending.

Leigh Rockets 3 Chelmsford City 1

For most of the first half, both sides fought out a closely fought match with the ball at both ends for equal time. But, ten minutes into the half, a loose ball in the City penalty area was quickly seized upon by Leigh to take the score to 1-0. The remainder of the half saw both teams battle out a keenly contested match, creating chances at both ends.

Going into the second half, both teams again played their part in an exciting match. The home team couldn’t convert their chances when a well judged lob and a free kick both sailed past City’s post. But the home team did not miss shortly after when a Leigh player struck a shot that sailed into the City goal, taking the score line to 2-0, City now found themselves on the back foot and the home team took the score line to 3-0 shortly after. Chelmsford battled hard, pressurizing the home team’s defences and were rewarded just before the final whistle with a goal when Sophie Dorrington knocked in a loose ball to take the score line to 3-1.

Chelmsford City 2 Romford Borough 1

Chelmsford City gained their first win of the season, courtesy of a gritty, determined display of football.

Romford started brightly and made their intentions clear within five minutes when their striker lobbed just over City’s crossbar. But after fifteen minutes of end to end play it was City who took the lead, midfielder Laura Massey skilfully went past a number of Romford defenders only to see her shot parried to City striker Gemma Plank who was on hand to follow up and take the score to 1-0. In a game that ebbed and flowed it was now Romford who tried to get back in the game. The City defences held firm, but with minutes to go to the end of the first half Romford levelled the score with a well-taken shot just inside City’s near post.

Going into the second half, Chelmsford were pressurizing the visitors defences, and they were unlucky when two efforts were well saved by Romford’s ‘keeper. But fifteen minutes into the half, City’s hard work paid off when Gemma Plank’s well judged lob from twenty yards took the score line to 2-1. Romford tried to grab an equalizer late into the game, but City were resolute, the final match score line 2-1 to Chelmsford City.

Chelmsford City 0 Braintree Town 1

It was Braintree that started the brighter side, but the City defences held firm and Braintree could not find a way past. After fifteen minutes, Chelmsford worked themselves back into the game and the rest of the half was poised evenly. But, it was the visitors who were to take the lead, courtesy of a well-taken shot when the ball broke loose ten yards out from the City goal line.

As soon as the whistle went to start the second half, City pressurized Braintree’s defence and were unlucky not to score when Gemma Plank’s pass found Sophie Dorrington who saw her shot well saved. Braintree tried to get back into the game and saw a fierce shot rebounded off the home teams post ten minutes into the half.

During the final fifteen minutes, City gave everything with relentless pressure on Braintree’s back line, but could not covert their chances. This was another battling performance by Chelmsford City, but special mention must go ‘keeper Olivia Robinson and the back three of Leanne Miles, Jade Murrell and Ellie Annan who all had an excellent game, but it was midfielder Hannah Tomsett who earned player of the match with her relentless energy and enthusiasm.

Chelmsford City 1 Braintree Town 4

Chelmsford City played their first home match of the season and were unlucky to lose 4-1 in an entertaining match.
Both sides started brightly but it was City striker Sophie Dorrington who had an outstanding half and was unlucky not to score after several shots were well saved by the visitor’s goalkeeper. However, just before the end of the half and against the run of play a Braintree player broke free and managed to score, taking the scoreline to 0-1.

The second half started much like the first with both teams playing their part in a game that ebbed and flowed in both directions, but once again Braintree took their chance well and took the score to 0-2 ten minutes into the second half. Playing with confidence Braintree tried to apply more pressure but City goalkeeper Olivia Robinson excelled with a series of outstanding saves. Shortly after Chelmsford City managed to get themselves back into the game, playing good football, in particular the introduction of debutante City player Ailish Hunt up front made a real difference with her pacy runs and enthusiasm.

City were rewarded fifteen minutes into the half when midfielder Laura Massey skilfully powered a shot over Braintree’s goalkeeper to take the score to 1-2, this topped off a fantastic performance by her that earned her the accolade of player of the match. Not to be outdone the visitors tried to get back in the game and applied pressure to City’s defences and five minutes later took the score line to 1-3. The visitors were fortunate a few minutes a few later when a loose ball in City’s penalty area was adjudged to have crossed the line, taking the score to 1-4. Towards the end of the match City ‘keeper shone once again with a string of outstanding saves to keep the score line down.

This was a confident, assured display of football by Chelmsford City who must now look forward to playing Hawkwell Athletic next Sunday.

Hawkwell Athletic 2 Chelmsford City 1

Chelmsford City played Hawkwell Athletic in a thoroughly entertaining match and were very unlucky not to gain a point for their efforts.

City started the match well, pressurising the home team’s defences and City midfielder Karina Fox was unlucky when the home team’s goalkeeper saved her shot. As the game ebbed and flowed, Hawkwell started to apply pressure to City’s defences and were rewarded shortly after when they scored taking the scoreline to 1-0. Playing with confidence Hawkwell kept the upper hand for a while pressurizing City’s defences. But the City back line held their nerve and goalkeeper Hannah Tomsett made a series of wonderful saves. Twenty-five minutes into the half Hawkwell were awarded a free kick, which resulted with a home team player connecting with a loose ball that looped into City’s goal taking the score to 2-0.

Chelmsford started the second half extremely brightly and after ten minutes Gemma Plank’s shot just missed the home team’s goal. City pushed forward playing entertaining football and five minutes later Emily Kendle’s audacious lob from thirty yards just missed Hawkwell’s goal. But Chelmsford were rewarded for their efforts five minutes later when Gemma Plank coolly slotted home for City to take the score to 2-1.

Praise must go to every City player who played their part in a exciting match and gave their all, in particular defender Ellie Annan whose performance earned her player of the match.

Under 12’s Little Thurrock Dynamos 11 Chelmsford City 1

From the start, the home team made their intentions clear by scoring within the first two minutes, they didn’t let off the pressure and within the first ten minutes the score line was 4-0. City tried their beast to get back into the game, but were frustrated by the home team and it was Olivia Robinson in goal for City who valiantly kept the home team at bay with a series of superb saves. But, for the rest of the half Thurrock kept coming at City and at half time the score stood at 8-0.

The home side started the second half much like the first and managed to score twice in the first ten minutes. City were now playing with confidence and began to assert themselves more, probing the home defences and were rewarded on fifteen minutes into the half when striker Gemma Plank’s shot found the right hand corner of the net to take the score to 10-1. Not to be outdone the home side launched a series of attacks on City’s defences but were thwarted by City goalkeeper Olivia Robinson who made another string of outstanding saves, including a terrific goal line clearance and a superb save from a fierce shot, topping off a performance that earned her player of the match.
