Writtle
Minors 3 Chelmsford City 0
Essex County Girls League Under-13 Division 1, Sunday March 8th, kick-off
10.00am at Paradise Road, Writtle.
This was always going to be
one of City’s toughest games of the season and it took a solid performance to
keep Writtle down to a three-goal winning margin.
The hosts have been scoring goals aplenty of late but with Christie Lucking making several early saves it wasn’t until the 20th minute that Writtle eventually went ahead, courtesy of a defensive error. Shortly before half-time Karina Fox had a sight of goal but was quickly crowded out, Jade Harrington firing the loose ball wide. Writtle continued to enjoy the majority of possession and soon after the restart they forced Lucking into another terrific stop as well as rattling the crossbar. Chelmsford did show glimpses of getting back into the game but a second Writtle goal eleven minutes from time, followed by another shortly after put paid to any lingering hopes of a draw.
A late Gemma Plank corner almost brought about a consolation goal as the ball clipped the far post, but City should be proud of their efforts and can build upon their determined display as they bid to get back to winning ways in the near future.
