  An early Gemma Plank strike proved sufficient to bring Chelmsford maximum points in this closely-fought encounter on Sunday. Plank linked up well with strike partner Jennifer Baldock before driving a low shot into the net after just six minutes to register her first goal of the season. The duo soon created another opening but Baldock’s effort was comfortably saved.

  At the opposite end, Christie Lucking’s safe handling ensured that several Rockets attacks were calmly dealt with. Laura Massey also tested the visiting ‘keeper and with captain-for-the-day and ‘Girl of the Match’ Sophie Dorrington dominating in midfield there was always the likelihood of a second City goal.

  After the break Leigh exerted a fair bit of pressure themselves and it took some solid defending to keep them at bay. In the closing stages Ellie Annan saw her fierce free-kick saved as City looked to put the result beyond doubt, but thankfully Leigh weren’t able to deny them what was a very welcome victory.
