Leigh Rockets 1 Chelmsford City 1
Sunday 29th March 2009 at Fairways School, Leigh-on-Sea, kick-off 10.00am, Essex County Girls League Under-13 Division A.

City were just unable to register their third successive victory on Sunday, having to settle for a point against a useful Leigh side.

With both defences dominant, goalscoring chances were at a premium and with the addition of two excellent goalkeepers this was never destined to be a high-scoring encounter. The early kick-off led to a lethargic opening period with most of the football being rather scrappy. The first action of note came on 16 minutes when a Leigh forward was given far too much time and space, enabling her to get in a fine shot that dropped just under the bar to break the deadlock. Chelmsford did string several promising moves together but were rarely given a sight of goal.

However, 11 minutes into the second-half a deserved equaliser was forthcoming. Jennifer Baldock neatly threaded the ball into the path of Gemma Plank who just got there ahead of the ‘keeper to poke her shot into the net. Both teams went in search of a winner but overall a draw was a fair result, with left-back Ailish Hunt’s superb display meaning that she didn’t have to return the ‘Girl of the Match’ trophy she also won last week.
