Brentwood Town 3 Chelmsford City 2
Sunday 14th December 2008 at The Brentwood Centre, kick-off 11.30, Essex County Girls League Under-13 League Cup First Round.

Chelmsford City bowed out of the League Cup having at one stage looked set to progress in the competition. But two late goals turned the tie in Brentwood's favour, with the winner coming three minutes from time.

Hollie Austin made her debut in midfield for the Clarets and she soon adapted to their slick passing game that had Brentwood stretched for long periods of the first-half. It was the home team though who went ahead on 14 minutes via a deflected shot that left goalkeeper Christie Lucking stranded.

Nine minutes later City equalised with a marvelous solo effort by Sophie Dorrington. Collecting the ball just inside her own half, she raced goalwards before blasting a shot into the net for her fifth goal of the season. In their next attack the Town goalkeeper saved Dorrington's low shot from fifteen yards.

Sixteen minutes after the break Chelmsford struck again when sheer determination took Laura Massey through a number of challenges, enabling her to smartly register City's second goal. However, they were soon under pressure and it took several excellent saves by Lucking to preserve their lead.

Brentwood's persistence eventually paid off with two almost identical runs ending with fine finishes to dash Chelmsford's cup hopes. It was tough luck on the visitors for whom defender Jade Murrell shone throughout, thus earning her the 'Player of the Match' trophy.
