Chelmsford City 1 Clacton United 1
Sunday 16th November 2008, Marconi Leisure, Chelmsford. Kick Off
1.00pm, Essex County Girls League Under 13 Division A
A dramatic Olivia Robinson equaliser just twenty seconds from the final whistle helped ensure Chelmsford City gained the draw their efforts richly deserved.
Only the brilliance of both goalkeepers prevented an avalanche of goals as play continually ebbed and flowed, with the visitors twice missing good opportunities early on. City then got their passing game together and Sophie Dorrington had a couple of half-chances that were just off-target. Jennifer Baldock, Leanne Miles and Emily Kendle also went close to scoring as Chelmsford continued to press.
However, it took a marvellous double save by 'Player of the Match' Christie Lucking to leave things even at the break. The deadlock was finally broken three minutes into the second-half when Clacton netted despite Lucking again excelling in blocking the initial shot. Amy Clark almost marked her debut with a goal but Clacton's 'keeper was equal to her attempt. When City were caught pushing forward they were once more indebted to Lucking who pulled off a superb one-handed save to keep her team in contention.
With referee Roger Barnard - who more than played his part with a fine display - poised to conclude proceedings, top scorer Robinson's low shot from the edge of the area slipped through the 'keeper's grasp to rescue a point.
