Leigh Ramblers 1 Chelmsford City 0
Sunday 28th September 2008, Jones' Memorial Field, Southend. Kick Off 12.00 Essex County Girls League Under 13 Division.

Chelmsford City's attempt at a second consecutive victory narrowly failed in the searing Southend heat despite long periods of pressure on the Leigh defence.

The crucial moment arrived as early as the eighth minute, literally seconds after City went mightily close to opening the scoring themselves. Jade Harrington's precise pass fed Sophie Dorrington who saw her firm drive superbly clawed away by the home goalkeeper. The resultant corner was rapidly cleared upfield where a home striker raced through to score.

The visitors then settled down but it wasn't until the second-half that they really got to grips with the game, albeit after Christie Lucking's smart save kept the deficit at one. Clever passing between Ellie Annan and Gemma Plank set up Ailish Hunt only for her low shot to go marginally wide. Jade Murrell's 20-yard free-kick then dropped just over the bar as the Clarets surged forward at every opportunity. And with just two minutes left an equaliser looked imminent but twice Plank's goalbound efforts were dramatically blocked.

No 'Girl of the Match' award was given due to such a good all-round team performance in extremely difficult and exhausting conditions.

Chelmsford City: Christie Lucking, Ellie Annan, Leanne Miles, Jade Murrell, Hannah Tomsett, Olivia Robinson, Emily Kendle, Jade Harrington, Sophie Dorrington, Ailish Hunt, Karina Fox, Gemma Plank.
