Essex County Football Girls' League Cup Under-14 Division A.
At Flanders Playing Field, East Ham.
Sunday 13th December 2009.
West Ham United 6 Chelmsford City 0
Having somehow conceded just a single goal in the first-half, Chelmsford's brave
resistance was finally broken after half-time when the rampant Hammers scored
five terrific goals in just nine minutes.
Despite the scoreline the young Clarets should be proud of their performance against an extremely good side who showed their intentions as early as the first minute, forcing Christie Lucking into a fine fingertip save.
The hosts did inevitably take the lead with a fierce shot on five minutes but all credit to City's back-line, with 'Girl of the Match' Rosanna Critchell helping break up a succession of attacks as the one-way traffic continued.
However, City almost fashioned an equaliser moments into the second-half, Jennifer Baldock's jinking run bringing a good stop from the West Ham 'keeper. But the advantage was soon doubled and several ensuing attacks brought about a quality finish to well and truly put City out of contention.
The visitors
soon regained their composure in order to keep the scoreline down, and it was
pleasing for the management that West Ham had to work hard for their goals, none
of them being gifts which has been City's downfall on many occasions this
season.
