Essex County Girls League Under-14 Division A,
Sunday 14th March 2010
CHELMSFORD CITY 1 COLCHESTER TOWN 0
played at Marconi Leisure on , kick-off 2.00 pm.
Another display of grit and determination brought Chelmsford City a second successive home league victory, this time at the expense of fellow strugglers Colchester Town.
The hosts looked lively from the first whistle and created several promising moves, especially via 'Player of the Match' Karina Fox who controlled much of the play in midfield. Both Gemma Plank and Jennifer Baldock went close for City and Ellie Annan forced the Town goalkeeper into a smart save from 25 yards.
The second-half saw even more chances come and go, particularly when Baldock let fly with an absolute rocket which the visiting 'keeper kept out in style. Fox also forced a good save with an excellent first-time shot from a corner, before Baldock dragged a couple of efforts wide when well placed.
However, with eight minutes left Baldock's tantalising cross from the right proved to be perfectly weighted as it dropped just inside the far post. The look on her face suggested it was a pure fluke but nobody from Chelmsford really minded! There was almost a nasty shock for City when a defensive mistake let in a Colchester forward and with literally the last kick of the game she fired the ball agonisingly wide.
