Assundun Vikings 5 Chelmsford City 6

Having had 2 weeks without a win, City finally got their share of the luck in this 11 goal thriller.

Assundun started strongly and despite some fantastically brave goalkeeping by Sarah Cherry they managed to score first. City took a while to settle in the windy conditions but eventually equalised through Millie Richards after some excellent midfield play from Rebecca Hinton. Assundun continued to fight and made good use of the sloping pitch to outpace the City defence and make it 2-1.

City's response to this could not have been better and within 20 seconds of the restart a delightful through ball from Hinton found Richards on the edge of the box and she lifted her shot beyond the on rushing keeper and into the bottom corner. With just minutes remaining until half time, Hinton opened her account, putting City in the lead for the first time.

The second half started much like the first but this time City settled quicker and Hinton fired her second and City's fourth. Assundun continued to press and a combination of pace and balance allowed their striker to fire in two goals, twice beating the off side trap and rounding the keeper to finish from tight angles.

Just as it looked as though City's poor run of luck would continue Shannon Matthews collected the ball a good twenty five yards from goal and after beating a defender hit an absolute screamer into the top corner to level the scores at 5-5.

With 5 minutes of the game remaining, Matthews decided to help out anyone who had missed her previous effort by doing the same thing again, only from slightly further out this time!

This win keeps City hot on the heels of their title rivals and hopefully they can improve on this performance at home to Ockendon Rhinos next week.
