Essex County Girls' Football League
Under 15 ‘A’ Division.
Sunday 7th February 2010
Chelmsford City 7 Copeland Colts 0
at Marconi Leisure, West Hanningfield Road, Chelmsford CM2 8HN. Kick Off 2.00pm.
Having not played since the end of November, City were looking to blow off a few cobwebs against a side they beat 4-0 on the opening day of the season.
Although Copeland only managed to field 7 players, City’s nine players made hard work of things during the first half and it wasn't until 20 minutes in that Mollie DeBell opened the scoring. This seemed to wake City up and they added two more before the break from Rosie Coe and Christy Hill, although the latter was a comedy of errors. A combination of sliced shots was followed by the away keeper managing to somehow dive over the ball as it trickled into the net.
The introduction of two half time substitutes meant that City were able to keep their momentum going. Rebecca Hinton scored with a well struck shot from just inside the box. Shannon Matthews then scored the goal of the game, beating most of the Copeland players before squeezing her shot inside the near post. City, continued to press and were guilty of some glaring misses (though we'll put those down to being a bit rusty!).
With the game almost over, Mollie DeBell hit her second and this was added to by Katie Aldis in the dying moments, her goal being deserved reward for a fantastic second half display.
This win keeps City on track for second spot in the league behind runaway leaders Southend Manor.
