Ockendon Rhinos 1 Chelmsford City 1

City travelled to Ockendon knowing that a win would make finishing league runners up easier for them. However, they were slow to get going after the early kick off and gifted Rhinos the opener, standing off and allowing a mis hit shot to find its way into the corner of the net. City still took much of the first half to find their rhythm, with Tayla Peel looking like their best option going forward. With 10 minutes of the first half remaining, City managed to break through the Rhinos back line and with Rosie Coe going close, but not close enough. This seemed to wake City up and the continued to press. Having won the ball in midfield, Tayla Peel was put through and hit a shot that was too hot for the Rhinos keeper to hold on to, Rosie Coe, following up, calmly slotted the ball into the empty net to equalise.

The second half started as evenly as the first and then turned into a 5 minute spell of end to end football with both sides looking to take charge. City continued to work hard and Coe came close to adding a second, her shot cannoning off the bar and bouncing agonisingly the wrong side of the line. City finally got a bit of luck that has been missing this season, when a well struck Rhinos shot beat City keeper Georgina Outhwaite before smacking against the post and returning straight into the arms of the keeper. City eventually dominated the second half with excellent displays from Shannon Matthews, Gabby Freedman, Becky Bryant and Chloe Evans, but they could not get the second goal that their dominance deserved.

Next week: City are away to Redbridge in their final game of the season. A good win will secure third spot.

Chelmsford City: Georgina Outhwaite, Ellie Brown (Chloe Evans), Becky Bryant, Shannon Jones, Gabby Freedman, Shannon Matthews (C), Katie Aldis, Tayla Peel, Rosie Coe.

Player of the match: Tayla Peel.
