Essex County Girls League Under 15 A Division
Sunday 8th November 2009
Chelmsford City 3 Ockendon Rhinos 1
at Marconi Leisure, West Hanningfield Road, Chelmsford CM2 8HN. Kick Off 2.00pm..
City strengthened their hold on second spot with this win over a very strong, determined Ockendon side after an entertaining end to end game of football.
City opened the scoring with Rebecca Hinton firing home from a tight angle with little more than 10 minutes on the clock. Ockendon were a very physical side and proved to be City's toughest opponents this season. They wanted to win every ball and the City players had to remain alert at all times.
Mid way through the first half, City were awarded a free kick just outside their own box after a tough challenge from a Rhinos forward. Becky Bryant took the kick and found Katie Aldis with a beautiful cross field ball that beat the off-side trap, allowing Aldis to fire home into the bottom corner.
Ockendon continued to apply pressure and made it 2-1 with an unstoppable drive from wide on the right that flew into the top corner, leaving City keeper, George Outhwaite stranded.
The second half was much the same as the first with some tasty tackles flying in, but Rebecca Hinton settled things late in the game with a well taken though fortunate, shot from the edge of the box that the diving Rhinos keeper could only push into the bottom corner.
